Last Thursday, May 29th, the CHPTA held an online information session for CHPTA and COPA members that covered a number of federal and provincial environmental Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs and initiatives on plastics as well as new product-related standards impacting our member companies.
During the webinar, members were updated on the following subject matter:
- Quebec Bill 96 French Language Regulations (became fully effect June 1, 2025)
- Federal Government (Competition Bureau/Competition Act) Anti-Greenwashing Guidelines
- Latest from Provincial Blue Box/PPP Programs
- Federal Government (ECCC) Plastics Registry
- Federal Government (ECCC, Health Canada, CEPA) PFAs Reporting
- Federal Government Single-Use Plastics Ban (awaiting Federal Court of Appeal Ruling)
- Federal Government (ECCC) Proposed Regulations for Plastic Packaging & Certain Single-Use Plastics including Recycled Content Requirements and Recyclability/Compostability Labelling Rules
- New CSA Standards (C22.2) for Portable Cooking Appliances & Liquid-Heating Appliances

Moving forward, the Association is setting up a new Peer Group on Environmental & Regulatory Affairs to continue to review and discuss these and future programs/regulations on an ongoing basis every 8 weeks via Zoom, or as required.
The next such meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 24th, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. ET.
