In January, Hudson’s Bay announced the layoff of 41 staff as it revamps its structure. The company’s spokesperson, Charla Parkinson, confirmed the cuts but did not provide details about the roles or cities affected. Parkinson attributed the layoffs to “challenging headwinds” in the retail industry. While the layoff was a difficult decision, Charla says it was a necessary move for the Toronto-based company.
Hudson’s Bay had previously laid off about 1% of its workforce in April and made several cuts in the summer, including when HBC prepared to spin out some brands into a new entity called Saks Global. In November, Hudson’s Bay also backed out of its plan to operate a store at the redeveloped Oakridge Park in Vancouver.
