Canadian Tire announced the following appointments:

General Merchandising (reporting to Michael Magennis, SVP, General Merchandising)

  • Doug Young will be changing portfolios and will be joining the Seasonal & Gardening team as VP, Seasonal and Gardening. Doug joined Canadian Tire in 2006 and has held various progressive positions within Store Operations and Merchandising where he has led his teams in delivering results through innovation, great partnerships and operational excellence. Most recently Doug held the role of VP, Living where he was the business lead on our multi year, cross functional Pet strategy work, including our strategic partnership with Petco. This strategy is a core growth pillar for both our Living division and active family customers, who over index in both pet ownership and spend. Doug has been a champion of integrating customer data into business analysis. In addition, he has driven strong brand penetration into the Living division, through owned brands like Paderno, Masterchef and Type A, and select national brands like the Home Edit and Blue Buffalo. Prior to Canadian Tire Doug has held various roles within Retail at both HBC and Zellers in areas such as Marketing and Store Operations. Reporting to Doug will be Patrick Farrugia, Sheri Fletcher, David Jackman, Allison Duffy and their respective teams.
  • Carolyn McPherson has accepted the role of Vice President, Living. Carolyn joined Canadian Tire in 2006 and has held progressive roles within Merchandising and Store Support that have been anchored in building market disruptive strategies and collaborating across a dynamically changing organization. Most recently Carolyn held the role of AVP, Backyard Living, Seasonal and Party City (seasonal), where she played a key role in the assessment and integration of the Party City business into CTR. This work was vey cross functional in nature, both internally and with our dealers, as we contemplated new ways to drive growth in our business. In addition, she has been growing our brand portfolio, launching Weber into our BBQ business this year while driving growth in Canvas, Noma, Vermont Castings and Masterchef. In addition to her work, Carolyn is a founding member of the Canadian Tire Women’s Leadership Network and the 2019 recipient of WXN’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women. Reporting to Carolyn will be Wissam El-Hajj-Khalil, Jonathan Cooperman, Drew Blackwell and their respective teams. Carolyn will be going on maternity leave at the end of June.
  • Natalie Miall has accepted a 13-month temporary assignment role of  Vice President, Living (covering Carolyn’s upcoming maternity leave). Natalie joined Canadian Tire in 2001 and held progressive roles within Merchandising under a variety of categories/lines of business. In 2012 Natalie left to pursue other opportunities at Target and Walmart within Merchandising and e-commerce and returned to CTR in 2017 as AVP, Cleaning, Pet, and Food. In her role, she has been instrumental in moving our Pet strategy forward by generating support across marketing, digital and store design. The best manifestation of this work is the new Pet Enhanced Department in our Remarkable Retail store, which shows our potential in this critical category. In addition, Natalie has been leading the work on the Party City candy program, adapting it to a changing, Covid impacted marketplace.  Natalie is a curious, creative and passionate leader, demonstrated through her strong interpersonal relationships, which will serve her well in this role.  

TJ Flood, President, Canadian Tire Retail, announced the following appointment:

I am excited to announce that effective immediately Micheline Davies has accepted the role of Senior Vice President, Automotive, reporting to me. 

Micheline brings more than 30 years of retail experience to this role, including highly successful tenures in Merchandising, Store Support and a decade spent in store at CTR. In her most recent role as Vice President, Seasonal and Gardening, Micheline led her team to breakthrough performance and established long term, strategic growth platforms, most recently launching the Vermont Castings, Golfgreen and Muskol brands. As Vice President, Visual Merchandising, Micheline demonstrated award winning, customer-led innovation in her leadership of the Smart Store rollout, which included the first ever shop-in-shop at CTR: Living strategy stores, Hunting and Fishing Pro Shops, and Kids Zone. Micheline is a founding member of the Canadian Tire Women’s Leadership Network and is passionate about coaching and developing the next generation of strong leaders. Micheline is keen to return to her early roots in the Automotive business, where she previously led the Auto Parts Operations team through a time of strategic change. Reporting to Micheline will be Graham Jeffery, Sean Stokes, Bruce Allen and their respective teams. Micheline will work directly with Andrew and team over the coming weeks as she transitions into the role as he moves to his role as a Dealer. 

Micheline is known through the Enterprise as a capability builder and a change agent, both of which will serve her well in her new position. Please join me in wishing Micheline success in her new role.
